Capsules vs. the Oil-form

There’s a lot of VCO beauty or health products in the market that offer VCO in pills or specifically soft gel. Now, the largest softgel one can make is 1000 mg (1 gram). Researchers recommend about 3.5 tablespoons of coconut oil to eat everyday. 1 tablespoon is 14 grams, so the amount required per day is 49 grams. Imagine how much capsules you have to take that is equivalent to the dosage? It is about 49 capsules per day! And Usually the company producing this pills recommend only about 3 to 6 capsules, which is only a few drops of coconut oil. Plus, one bottle is about RM150-200/month for only a tiny bit of oil in comparison to taking the real oil, a 400 ml bottle for 3-4 months of sufficient daily dosage. What value are those expensive pills?

Not only that, think about what else are you consuming besides the oil inside them? The capsules are made from gelatin capsules made from who-knows-what.  We don't see anyone advertising organic grass-fed derived gelatin capsules. (If they are "vegetarian" capsules, then they are likely corn or soy-based with GMOs.) So any toxins currently existing like the growth hormones, antibiotics, etc.) will also be in these gelatin capsules.

Please be alarmed by the company that are taking advantage of their clients and give them a product that has little or no value, and could potentially be even harmful to them.

 Why Niulife Coconut Oil?

There are many reasons why I recommend niulife apart form its delicious taste unlike any other coconut oils.

1. It is free of Hexane.
2. It is cold pressed, using the Direct Micro Expelling (DME) process, which takes less than one hour from fresh nut to virgin oil. This locks in all the natural goodness and yields a gourmet grade, full flavour oil free of contaminants.
3. It is certified organic by NASAA and not Genetically Modified. Having organic certification is sufficient to prove that no chemicals are used at all.
4. It is uniquely rich in Lauric Acid. The amount of Lauric acid tested is between 49 and 51%.
5. It it is not subjected to the high temperatures of most other oil extraction systems. The coconut is usually between 45°C and 60°C immediately before pressing. This is "cold" by oil standards.
6. Its free fatty acid (FFA) level is less than 0.1% at production, means an almost indefinite shelf life when kept under preferred storage conditions*.
*Store out of direct sunlight in a cool dry place. It is not necessary to refrigerate. If you do it becomes rock-hard. VCO solidifies naturally at 24°C. Melt the oil by standing the container in warm water. Do not microwave.
7. It is 'extra virgin'. Virgin coconut oil is made directly from fresh coconuts and is normally not further refined. It is called the ‘Extra Virgin’ because it is made from the first and only pressing. The DME system is the quickest in the world, producing delicious hand-pressed oil less than one hour after opening a coconut.

Tom Hanks' Cast Away and the Coconut Diet

Remember the Cast Away movie where Tom Hanks was deserted on a tiny desert island after his plane got caught up in a vicious tropical storm (the plane is heading to Malaysia for all you know)? For those with the sixth-senses would notice that for the whole 4 years in the island, he was actually on a slimming program of eating just coconuts and crabs. Not just for slimming in fact, but also for survival. Enough said?  That's what coconut does for you!

Why Coconut oil/virgin coconut oil (VCO)?

1. The most versatile of all vegetable oils
2. "Saturated oil" means it is extremely stable with an almost indefinite shelf life
3. Rapidly metabolised by the body and excellent source of energy
4. Contains Lauric fatty acid , a prime ingredient in mothers’ milk which builds up an infant’s immune system
5. Have the least cholestrol (about 0-14 ppm) in comparison to other vegetable oils.

My VCO highlights

I  am a satisfied consumer of the pure, natural, unrefined coconut oil brand called Niulife and would like to spread out the words. What makes the brand stand out apart from others are:

Health Benefits Of Coconut Oil

By Dianne Ronnow

Have you heard about coconut oil yet? People are adding coconut oil to their diets and are getting incredible results. They are losing weight, getting more energy, and getting healthier.

Coconut oil is safe to use, and does not turn to fat in your body. It raises the metabolism, so you burn more fat and have more energy. It does not increase your cholesterol, but actually helps lower it. Coconut oil is wonderful diet addition for just about everyone.

Coconut oil is full of healthy benefits. Next to mother’s milk, it is nature’s highest source of medium chain fatty acids (MTC’s), which raise the body’s metabolism, leading to weight loss. It has fatty acids such as lauric acid and monoglycerides, similar to mother’s breast milk.

When lauric acid is consumed in the body, whether through mother’s milk or coconut oil, it enhances the immune system to help the body fight infections, diseases, bad bacteria and yeast invasions. Lauric aid is known to be anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial.

Coconut oil raises the metabolism, which helps people who are trying to lose weight and people suffering from thyroid problems. Coconut stabilizes the blood sugar levels, helping with diabetes. It also protects the heart cells from damage.

Coconut oil helps relieve the symptoms of menopause, and pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS). Many women who suffer the effects of PMS have found the symptoms lessened when coconut oil was consumed often in their diet.

Coconut oil does not raise cholesterol. Studies have shown that people who use coconut oil have lower cholesterol than those who do not, even when the people consuming coconut also eat other high cholesterol foods like eggs and meat.

Coconut oil smells good, tastes pleasant and is so good for our bodies that some people consume it straight, by the tablespoon, and use it in place of other oils on their salads. Many people also use it as an ingredient when juicing or making smoothies.

If all this good news isn’t enough, coconut oil one of the best things you can apply directly on your skin and hair. It not only gives temporary relief to skin problems like rashes, but it aids in healing and restoring skin to a younger appearance. It has also been known to help with people who suffer from yeast infections in the skin, and there is solid research that shows the MCTs in coconut oil do overcome yeast infections. Coconut oil also makes an excellent massage oil.

Coconut oil and weight loss

By Bruce Fife, N.D.
Do you eat low-fat and fat free foods and shun fat at every opportunity to avoid gaining weight? If so, that may be one of your problems. The belief that eating fat makes you fat is no longer considered accurate. Some fats can actually help you lose excess weight. Adding fat into your diet may be the key in helping you shed spare pounds you’ve been struggling with for years.

Not all fats, however, are alike. Some fats promote weight loss better than others. One fat in particular is gaining a reputation as an effective aid in weight loss and is being recommended for use in the prevention and treatment of obesity. This miracle fat is coconut oil.

At one time coconut oil was criticized for its saturated fat content but we now know that it is composed of a very special group of saturated fats known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCT). Research has shown that MCT provide many health benefits, one of which is aiding in weight loss.
What makes MCT different from other fats is the way they are processed and metabolized by the body. MCT are broken down and digested very easily. Unlike other fats, they do not require pancreatic digestive enzymes or bile for digestion.

The vast majority of fat digestion occurs in the small intestine. Here pancreatic digestive enzymes with the aid of bile break fats down into fatty acids. These fatty acids are then absorbed into the intestinal wall where they are packaged into bundles of fat and protein called lipoproteins and sent into the bloodstream. As these lipoproteins circulate in the bloodstream they release particles of fat. This is the fat that eventually ends up being packed into our fat cells...

The MCT in coconut oil are processed differently. MCT are broken down into individual fatty acids before they leave the stomach. So when they enter the small intestine they do not need any further processing by digestive enzymes or bile. For this reason, they are immediately absorbed into the portal vein and sent directly to the liver, bypassing the lipoprotein stage in the intestinal wall. In the liver these medium-chain fatty acids are used as a source of fuel and are burned to produce energy. Therefore, the fat in coconut oil does not circulate in the bloodstream to the degree that other fats do and does not contribute fat to our fat cells.

The MCT in coconut oil produce energy, not body fat. The fact that MCT are used by the body as a source of fuel, rather than being packed away as body fat, provides many health benefits. The most obvious is a boost in energy. This rise in energy stimulates metabolism. Metabolism is shifted into a higher gear. As metabolism increases the rate at which we burn calories also increases. Therefore, the calories we eat are consumed at a higher rate leaving fewer to be converted into body fat.

Studies have shown that in normal weight individuals after a single meal containing MCT metabolism increases by 48%. In obese individuals metabolism increases by an incredible 65%! So the more overweight a person is the greater the effect coconut oil has on stimulating metabolism and encouraging weight loss.

This metabolic stimulating effect isn’t seen for only an hour or two after eating. Studies have shown that after a single meal containing MCT metabolism remains elevated for a full 24 hours. So for 24 hours energy level is increased, metabolism is running at a higher pace, and calories are burned off at a greater rate. Calories consumed from other foods are even burned off at a higher rate.

There was an interesting study published in the journal Metabolism. Volunteers were given one of three diets—a low-fat diet, a high-fat diet, and a high-fat diet consisting of MCT. The study lasted 44 days. At the end of the study those who received the MCT had 60% less body fat then either of the other groups.
Researchers at McGill University have calculated that if all fats in the diet were replaced with an oil that contained MCT, such as coconut oil, a person could lose up to 36 pounds a year. This is without dieting, changing the type of foods eaten, or reducing the amount of calories consumed. When combined with a sensible diet coconut oil can be an effective aid in weight loss.

The benefits of coconut oil aren’t limited to just an increase in energy and loss of excess body fat. Because coconut oil increases metabolism it has an effect over the entire body. When metabolism is increased the body functions at a higher level of efficiency; circulation improves, the rate of repair and healing increases, the immune system is raised to a higher level of efficiency, energy levels are increased. There is an overall improvement in health and well-being. Because of this and other reasons coconut oil is proving to be of benefit in preventing and alleviating many of the symptoms associated with heart disease, diabetes, cancer, liver disease, Crohn’s disease, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and hypothyroidism, to mention just a few.

Never before in the history of man is it so important to emphasize the value of lauric oils. The medium-chain fats in coconut oil are similar to fats in mother's milk and have similar nutriceutical effects. In the past four decades misinformation and disinformation provided by certain politically biased agricultural groups and repeated in professional and lay press have led people to believe that all saturated fats are unhealthy. Little attention is focused on the fact that saturated fatty acids are not single family of fats but comprise three subgroups: short (C2-C6), medium (C8-C12) and long (C14- C24) chain fatty acids. The medium chain fats are found exclusively in lauric oils.

The lauric acid in coconut oil is used by the body to make the same disease-fighting fatty acid derivative monolaurin that babies make from the lauric acid they get from their mothers´ milk. The monoglyceride monolaurin is the substance that keeps infants from getting viral or bacterial or protozoal infections. Until just recently, this important benefit has been largely overlooked by the medical and nutritional community.

Coconut milk and coconut oil are consumed by the majority of Sri Lankans and rural people which comprise 70% of our population. They get a significant portion of their calories from coconut. It has been found that the majority of people in the rural areas get about 35 gram of fat per day from coconut and they consume very little food containing fats such as milk, butter, cheese, beef, pork, and corn oil as they cannot afford these expensive dietary items. From our clinical experience, we know that serum cholesterol level of people in rural areas is very low. When we investigate patients with ischaemic heart disease (IHD) from rural areas, we find that their serum cholesterol is normal or low. The commonest risk factor for heart attack in rural areas is smoking.
Coconut has been used in Sri Lanka for over 1000 years but the epidemic of IHD is of recent origin. Before 1950, heart attacks were not common in Sri Lanka.

The clinical study on the effects of virgin coconut oil (VCO) on immune responses among HIV positive patients in Dhamais Hospital, Jakarta concludes that the macronutrient intake, mostly in terms of energy, fats and protein were significantly improved among the VCO supplemented group. In addition, the weight and nutritional status of the subjects, especially among the VCO supplemented group, were maintained well throughout the study. By maintaining body weight and nutritional status, it is expected to have significant increases in CD 4 concentration because nutritional status is frequently associated with immune status, both humoral and and cell-mediated.
