Remember the Cast Away movie where
Tom Hanks was deserted on a tiny desert island after his plane got caught up in
a vicious tropical storm (the plane is heading to Malaysia for all you know)?
For those with the sixth-senses would notice that for the whole 4 years in the
island, he was actually on a slimming program of eating just coconuts
and crabs. Not just for slimming in fact, but also for survival. Enough
said? That's what coconut does for you!
Why Coconut oil/virgin coconut oil
(VCO)?
1. The most versatile of all
vegetable oils
2. "Saturated oil" means
it is extremely stable with an almost indefinite shelf life
3. Rapidly metabolised by the body
and excellent source of energy
4. Contains Lauric fatty acid , a
prime ingredient in mothers’ milk which builds up an infant’s immune system
5. Have the least cholestrol (about
0-14 ppm) in comparison to other vegetable oils.
My VCO highlights
I am a satisfied consumer of
the pure, natural, unrefined coconut oil brand called Niulife and would like to
spread out the words. What makes the brand stand out apart from others are:
1. It is free of Hexane.
2. It is cold pressed, using the
Direct Micro Expelling (DME) process, which takes less than one hour from fresh
nut to virgin oil. This locks in all the natural goodness and yields a gourmet
grade, full flavour oil free of contaminants.
3. It is certified organic by
NASAA and not Genetically Modified. Having organic certification is sufficient
to prove that no chemicals are used at all.
4. It is uniquely rich in Lauric
Acid. The amount of Lauric acid tested is between 49 and 51%.
5. It it is not subjected to the
high temperatures of most other oil extraction systems. The coconut is
usually between 45°C and 60°C immediately before pressing. This is
"cold" by oil standards.
6. Its free fatty acid (FFA) level
is less than 0.1% at production, means an almost indefinite shelf life
when kept under preferred storage conditions*.
*Store out of direct sunlight in a
cool dry place. It is not necessary to refrigerate. If you do it becomes
rock-hard. VCO solidifies naturally at 24°C. Melt the oil by standing the
container in warm water. Do not microwave.
7. It is 'extra virgin'.
Virgin coconut oil is made directly from fresh coconuts and is normally not
further refined. The company called its VCO ‘Extra Virgin’ because it is made
from the first and only pressing. The DME system is the quickest in the world,
producing delicious hand-pressed oil less than one hour after opening a
coconut.
